About to turn 3
Lexi turns 3 in 9 days. We are having a birthday party for her on the 7th (which happens to be her Uncle Andy's birthday). She is pretty excited about it. We are going swimming and having cake. There were be 5 kids there not counting her - I feel good about that for a summer birthday. I was afraid that no one would be able to come. She's all into princesses so we had to send out princess invitations.
So what has been happening with her these last months?
She is almost potty trained - basically no problems with urine (even at night) but can't get the pooping part down. Of course, I have decided that she has no problems at day care, only at home - and I think she plans it that way!
We are cycling through some type of cold or allergy reaction - she gets this really bad cough that doesn't go away. A few days of a runny nose but that dries up and the cough persists. I think it bothers mom and dad more than it bothers her.
We found out this week that the preschool she will start attending on August 25 (all day) requires uniforms. So we are now on the lookout for khaki or green bottoms and yellow shirts with a collar. If we hear at the last minute that she has been accepted into our 1st choice preschool, then we will probably be looking at some other color. But I figure she can always wear the stuff on weekends. Thrift stores, here I come!
Lexi continues to enjoy reading and happily looks at books. While she wants to turn the pages, this often means a turn before all of the words have been read. She is missing out on bigs chunks of some popular fairy tales!

By jove, I think she has got it!
Until you have a child, I don't know if you really think about going to the bathroom much. I mean you do - but not as much when you have a kid who is going through potty training. The day care teachers have been working very hard with Lexi and Dad and I are finally putting in some real efforts, too, I would say. I think she is finally getting it. Hoorah! She was very excited to pick out some new underwear on Saturday and will tell you all about it if you care to hear. And while there are still accidents, I think she understands what she is supposed to do even if she doesn't always tell you she has to go. Most of the time, you need to be asking her. But she is finally 'producing' on the potty!
Way to go, Lexi!

Updates
We haven't been very good about blogging regularly lately.
Or taking lots of photos.
Since this is where Lexi's baby book is basically housed, I wanted to update on a few things.
Lexi went to the dentist for the first time. The day care had a form we needed to complete so off we went. She was excited about going and we talked about opening her mouth to say 'ahh.' Still excited leading up to the door but once in the office, there was a complete meltdown. We sat in the patient chair waiting for the dentist with Lexi on my lap. There was a tv that they tuned to cartoons so the wait wasn't bad, but when the dentist appeared, there was no 'aahing' to be done. We finally got her to open her mouth so the dentist could count her teeth at least and look for dark spots of which he found none. And that was enough for the form to be filled, so we called it quits. Her canines are finally coming in though aren't all the way there yet and we haven't seen any sign of the molars. Soon she will have no gaps in her smile.
Lexi likes to go to the library and pick out books - and play on the kids computer which has learning games. She hasn't quite figured out how to move the mouse around to click on things but like the 'pidu' anyway.
Stephen took the back of off one of the toilets to see if he could fix it and while he is still working on it, the lid remains off. Lexi is enjoying looking into the back of the toilet. Too bad that she is not interested in sitting on the toilet. They say she is making great strides in this department at day care where they have started to have her wear underwear but at home we have had no action at all. We did buy some more stools for all of the potties so I have gotten her to sit on the toilet in the last day but it is usually for all of 10 seconds.
Fish sticks are her favorite food for the moment. She is 'off' of yogurt and peanut butter. Lexi's knows which restaurants serve ice cream (McD's, Wendy's) and when we pass them, that is what she says.
Her vocabulary is pretty impressive we think so we still don't understand some words. She is getting grammer down correctly. By the end of next week we will know where she will be going to preschool in the fall. She likes day care a lot - I hope she will transition ok. She tells stories or jokes that often make no sense but she laughs anyway.
She got a tricycle for Easter from Auntie Lora and is slowly getting the hang of the pedals. It's a bit of a stretch for her legs still but give her anouther 2 inches and she should have no problem keeping her feet on the pedals.
That's it for now. She continues to delight - and frustrate - us!

Doing the "Hokey Pokey"
She doesn't know all the words, but she makes up for it in enthusiasm, wouldn't you say?
